Ergonomic Assessments

NorthCoast Rehab provide an ergnonomic evaluation of a workplace and its furnishings, tools, and tasks in relation to the physical abilities of the worker.

Providing ergonomic training to individual needs can maximize efficiency, comfort and decrease the physical stresses that positioning or work can create and provide the knowledge that individuals can carry to future work environments.

It will also help reduce injuries and related expenses while improving the well-being, productivity, and morale of an employee. A job analysis may be provided, to match the capabilities of the worker to the job's physical requirements.

Ergonomic assessments, also referred to as workstation assessments, ensure that a worker's workstation is ergonomically designed to minimise the risk of injury and maximise productivity.

Ergonomic assessments are also conducted when:

  • to support the return to work of an injured worker by ensuring that their workstation is designed to minimise any discomfort as they recover from their injury and prevent any aggravation of the injury
  • for workers who work from home, to ensure their home work environment is safe and ergonomically designed.

Pre-Employment Screenings

Vocational Assessments

A pre-employment screening assessment determines a potential employee’s ability to perform the physical demands of a particular position or job role before an appointment is made. It can determine whether the match between a person’s physical tolerances meet the occupational requirements of the job. It is designed to ensure a suitable job-person match, and to reduce the risk of future musculoskeletal injuries in a pre-employment phase.

If required, we design conditioning/strengthening programs to ensure clients maintain their level of functioning for safe work performance /re-evaluation in the future.

Primarily these assessments serve to identify whether the individual can safely undertake the tasks required in the job role. NorthCoast Rehab may also recommend ways in which the individual’s disability may be best accommodated if they were to be awarded the position (for example, identifying useful assistive equipment).

Medico-Legal Assessments

NorthCoast Rehab provides Medico Legal Assessments and Reports for solicitors, insurers and other parties to assist in determining the impact of an injury on a person's life and functional ability in home, work and community-based tasks.

The Occupational Therapy Assessment report addresses the questions posed in the instructions and analysis of function in areas such as:

  • Personal care
  • Domestic duties
  • Vocational ability
  • Educational & training needs
  • Capacity to care for others (eg. dependents, children)

  • Living skills (eg. ability to manage own affairs)
  • Ability to engage in leisure activities
  • Where applicable, consideration is given to past and/or future requirements (eg. gratuitous care prognosis, changes to circumstances, ageing and care).

Recommendations are provided and aimed at maximising a person's level of functional independence. Recommendations may include:

  • Intervention: Future therapy, treatment and/ or rehabilitation needs.
